PSI’s 8.8-liter engine will offer Thomas Built Buses’ new Saf-T-Liner® C2 propane school buses exemplary torque at lower engine speeds, giving them improved fuel economy. Thomas began production of the new Type C bus in early August.
“We are happy to offer this new propane option for our customers,” Thomas Built Buses President and CEO Caley Edgerly said in a press release. “As our continued commitment to stand behind the latest in safety and efficiency technologies in our industry, this engine, which was designed specifically for propane fuel, offers customers uncompromising power and performance with maximum fuel efficiency and cleaner emissions.”
Saf-T-Liner buses with PSI’s 8.8-liter propane engine can be paired with Allison transmissions and are available with 70-gallon or 100-gallon fuel tanks. The bus is California Air Research Board (CAB) certified in all 50 states.
Our 8.8-liter propane engine also powers Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp.’s (FCCC) S2G work truck. Thomas Built Buses and FCCC are both subsidiaries of Daimler Trucks North America.
PSI also provides 8.8-liter propane and gasoline engines to Navistar’s IC Bus brand.
