PSI continued its strong support of the Wood Dale Police Department during the holiday season by raising $1,290 for the police “Shop With a Cop” program. Every December, police officers take a group of elementary and junior high school-aged children shopping at Target.
An officer picks up children in a squad car then takes them to the store, where they are treated to a hot cocoa at the Starbucks. Officers help the children select and buy gifts for each of their family members as well as something special for themselves, then help children wrap the gifts before taking them home. Funding for the program is provided entirely from donations by the community and local businesses. Each family is given approximately $150 in Target gift cards.
